Welcome to VumaTV

I think that many of us expected 2020 to be “our best year ever”...and instead, we were handed a big bag of lemons. Well, here’s to turning that bag of lemons into some ice-cold lemonade. I’m happy to introduce you to VumaTV. The only multicultural streaming network in the world with content that truly represents how we all live,- our lives in 2020: beautifully diverse.

I entered the streaming space years ago as an evolution of my career and who I am, but in truth, those seeds were planted decades ago. I created VumaTV to ensure that younger generations wouldn’t have to grow up the way I did-- not seeing themselves represented in the media. My family is made up of folks from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Venezuela. And if you are familiar with the island of Hispaniola and its history, you can clearly trace our ancestors back, in part, to West Africa, Spain, and a number of other places; we’ve got many different shades of skin, hair colors, textures, and shapes of noses...All of which is to say: my family is very diverse. But the mainstream media has not kept pace with the diversity of its audience.

That’s where we come in. Our name, VumaTV, comes from the Zulu word vuma, meaning “altogether.” I founded VumaTV to make sure the media that we consume today was more authentic, more real, and more reflective of how the billions of people who inhabit this planet, people like me, actually live today. I’m proud to have built a network that does that-- one that, additionally, doesn’t limit access just because you can’t afford it (we have a free account).

Many of you have never really understood what I did exactly, and frankly, I wasn’t keen on telling you until we were ready. Now, we can say that we’re taking actions into our own hands.)... Lemonade doesn’t make itself, after all.

Here’s to the next five years, altogether, in vuma.

Nothing brings me more joy than to sign this email as,
